Nathaniel Rateliff: Just For Me But I Thought Of You [Video]

Two weeks ago today, one of the best shows to ever happen in this building happened. It was magic, as it felt it would be. Nathaniel Rateliff brought harmonies and musics and the like to levels that melt butter. Plus, some oldies from Desire & Dissolving Men were scattered through the set list, including Just For Me But I Thought Of You. Video below. Enjoy and watch on repeat.

Led Zeppelin Loves Nathaniel Rateliff

Sometimes you read things that make you go “wow wow.”

I just went “wow wow” followed by “like, whoa.”

Our good friend Barton Dahl – who also manages Nathaniel Rateliff – sent over a message on the Google chat, insisting I go read what he posted on the shop’s Facebook wall. I did what he said.

Again…wow wow. Like, whoa.

The link took me to the MR PORTER Journal, where current “Man Of Note” Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin, Allison Krauss collaborator) lists his current musical playlist favs. Number one on that list? Oh…just NATHANIEL RATELIFF.

“Empty, fragmented and poignant” he says of Rateliff’s “Early Spring Till”. It’s a song I’m sure you’ve heard if you’ve been in the shop over the past couple weeks, as the volunteers have been playing Rateliff’s In Memory Of Loss on what seems like repeat in anticipation of his show at Everyday Joe’s on February 25 (tomorrow!).

Listen to “Early Spring Till” below. Head over to MR PORTER to get more musical suggestions from Mr. Plant. Tickets for the show- which are $10 in advance or $12 at the door – can be purchased here. Reed Foehl will be opening (that’s a treat), and the show starts at 7 pm.

New Nathaniel Rateliff song: “Pounds And Pounds”

We love the people of Nathaniel Rateliff (formerly Nathaniel Rateliff & The Wheel (formerly The Wheel)). They are good people. They make some fantastic music that is def some of our summer jaaaammmmmzzzzz. Good for nights on the porch, taking a nudge time to time…or mornings on the porch listening to the birds and crickets sing together.

I digitized over to the Nathaniel Rateliff site just now, only to be pleasantly surprised by video of an on-air in NYC performance of their new song “Pounds And Pounds.” ‘Tis a beaut, as per the norm.

Nathaniel is back in his deep-v white v-neck and Joseph Pope wears a Delta Spirit shirt. Almost as killer as the tune.

The Rateliff camp is on tour now, and will make a stop in Fort Collins during Bohemian Nights on August 21. See you there. “Pounds & Pounds” below.

Audio Treat: Nathaniel Rateliff (The Wheel) Daytrotter Session

So, this musical bit has been up on the world wide entirenets since early December, but we figured we’d go ahead and let you know about it…or remind you about it…now.

Why? Because Nathaniel Rateliff (formerly The Wheel) will be returning to the stage at Everyday Joe’s on Saturday (Feb. 20). Fresh off finishing his debut release for Rounder Records (home of Raffi) and fresh before leaving for England. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door and can be purchased at the shop or here. Show time is 7 pm. Shadows On A River and Jay J Mattot will warm the place up.

Our favorite from Nate’s session at the wonderful Daytrotter studios is posted below. Please enjoy “You Should Have Seen The Other Guy”. Listen to/download the rest of the session here, and we’ll see you on Saturday.

New Music From Gregory Alan Isakov = See You Saturday

To me, there is not much better than when a musician’s voice is as good an instrument as the one they happen to be playing. You’d think this would come naturally, but it very often does not (names could be mentioned…but I don’t want to start any scuffles). Names that do fit the “voice is as good an instrument as any” category are Ryan O’Neal (Sleeping At Last), Matthew Perryman Jones, Nathaniel Rateliff (Born In The Flood), Karen Peris (The Innocence Mission), and Glen Hansard (The Frames). There are more, but I need to get to making my point.

Two whose voices are smooth like a nice glass of whiskey and warm my innards just the same are Aaron Espe and Gregory Alan Isakov. And looky here, they’re both playing at Everyday Joe’s on Saturday night:

I have been fairly giddy concerning this show for several months, as have you I am sure. To increase that excitement exponentially, our friends over at The Mountain Tempo have posted a new song by Mr. Isakov over on their fine, fine blog. To hear it, click on his lovely South African face below.
