Katie Herzig: Live At The Fillmore SF

Our good lady Katie Herzig keeps moving on the up & up.

While Ms. Herzig & the band was on tour with Brandi Carlile back in fall of ott-nine, the good people of The Fillmore in San Francisco saw it proper to record her set (this same tour stopped by Everyday Joe’s). That recording is now available on iTunes in the so hip HD video or as just audio.

We’re glad the SanFran folks saw it proper, as we also see it proper.

Download Katie Herzig’s New “Live” Studio Album

This is pleasant and savvy.

If you follow our friend Katie Herzig on Twitter (@katieherzig), then you may have read the rumblings of a “live” studio album she was recording with her most-of-the-time tour mates Claire & Jordan. I enjoy “live” studio albums. I also “like” using quotation marks. Guns N Roses recorded “Paradise City” in one take. At least I think it was “Paradise City.” Either way…rock and roll.

This Acoustic Trio album that Herzig has recorded may not rock or roll, but it is free until November 1. You can download the album below. Katie, Claire, & Jordan (plus the rest of Katie’s band) will return to Everyday Joe’s on October 12. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door and are on sale now at Everyday Joe’s or by clicking here. Gregory Alan Isakov will be opening the show up, so be hip or square but just make sure you’re there.

According to PASTE Magazine, we’re about 11.5% on to something…

PASTE Magazine is a nice publication out of Hotlanta that we enjoy. You may even see old issues floating

we're ALMOST as hip as this guy

around Everyday Joe’s now and then.

In the most recent issue, PASTE lists their “26 Emerging Artists You Must Know.” Why 26 and not just 25? Not sure. Perhaps cleverness.

Regardless, the list includes two musicians that Everyday Joe’s does know, and one we almost knew. If it was some sort of test, we’d get full credit for…

Katie Herzig

It seems like it took PASTE long enough to give this lovely lady a mention in their mag. Katie has been performing at Everyday Joe’s since our 5th month of existence. Back then, she was the front-woman for Newcomers Home. Now, she resides in the little-known musical town of Nashvilee, TN and makes music as a solo artist. She’ll be back on the EJ’s stage on September 5th (buy tickets for that here). Back in March, she gave The Appendix a sneak peek at her new album. You can listen to “Songbird” here.

We love Katie very much.

Brooke Waggoner

Brooke is a nice lady that makes lovely music. She first played at Everyday Joe’s in May of 2008. Her younger brother, Philllip, plays in local group The Riflemen (who have a show next Friday at Everyday Joe’s, by the way). Brooke also graced us with an audio treat back in May. Tickle your audio sensories with that here. Hopefully she’ll be back soon. She is one of those folks whose musical caliber is from another planet.

And we might get partial credit for…

Bon Iver

Bon Iver has been making the rounds on music blogs for the past 6 months or so. The man recorded one of the best albums I’ve heard in sometime (For Emma, Forever Ago) while tending to his family’s cabin in the woods of Wisconsin. Magical things seem to come from isolation at times…and at other times craziness…or perhaps both (here’s lookin’ at you, Brian Wilson).

Once I heard the music of Bon Iver, I began to think of what it would sound like at 144 S. Mason and once I had calmed down a bit I e-mailed his booking agent. Possible dates were spoken of and the excitment was beginning to culminate…then he decided to tour Europe. Can’t blame the guy. Who wants free drinks at New Belgium when you can just go to Belgium?

Either way, it would be fun to have him here. I’ll leave it up to you. Write letters, write e-mails, send cookies. Do what you must.

3 out of 26. Not great on a report card, but alright on the hip train.

Audio Treat SPECIAL EDITION: NoiseTrade = Free Music For You

Holy cow holy cow holy cow.

For some time now, I’ve heard whisperings and rumblings about a musician in Nashville who wanted to start a music-sharing service based on the idea of relationships and community. Art and community and relationships colliding…yes please.

Ladies and gentleman, please welcome to the information cloud: NoiseTrade.Com (celebratory trumpets).

“What happens when the generous, forward-thinking artist meets the generous, forward-thinking fan? They live happily ever after.”

Those are the words of NoiseTrade’s co-founder and Nashville musician, Derek Webb. In September of 2006, Webb decided to give away his album “Mockingbird.” As a result, he watched his fan base grow exponentially (were you watching, Radiohead?). This then birthed an idea in his mind, and that idea grew into the beautiful child that is NoiseTrade- where you download entire albums(!) and as a trade you either spread the word to 3 friends or pay a minimum of $1. That sounds alright by me.

So far, the choices are limited to a small handful of Webb’s musical friends (his musical friends, however are quite talented). But give the site a break. As of when this is being written, NoiseTrade is just about 35 hours old. When you were 35 hours old you were sleeping 18 hours a day. Artists up for download include several Everyday Joe’s alum (Matthew Perryman Jones, Katie Herzig, Sandra McCracken) and several others who we wouldn’t mind being Everyday Joe’s alum.

Itinerary For: Friday, April 4 • Studio Opening, Katie Herzig

You know that ulser forming in your tummy? It’s from having to figure what to do with your Friday night. Don’t worry, Appendix E-J has your Tums and your plans ready. The evening’s events are two-fold.

6:15 pm or so: Arrive at the Gallery Underground (in the basement of the Avery Building…go down the stairs next to 10,000 Villages). Seek out Mr. Daryle G. Dickens and take the tour of his new studio. Chat a bit. Give Daryle a hug. Meet several other very nice people. Eat morsels and drink drink, if available. Give Daryle another hug, possibly a handshake. Leave the Gallery Underground.

7 pm: Arrive at Everyday Joe’s Coffee House. Order a drink. Say hi to those you know and introduce yourself to those you don’t. Find a seat and relax. The tunes of Alright Alright followed by Katie Herzig are about to enter your auditory devices. Ms. Herzig will have advance copies of her new album Apple Tree for sale. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. By them here.

An audio treat from Katie Herzig

In just two weeks, our dear friend Katie Herzig will be traveling back to Colorado from Nashville to play some shows for her home state. At her stop at Everyday Joe’s on April 4, Katie’s new album Apple Tree will be available as a special pre-release. You see, outside of these Colorado shows, you won’t be able to get your ears around Apple Tree until May. How’s that for fancy?
