Look at this man:

That is Josh Dillard. Do you remember him? He’s a long-time friend of Everyday Joe’s. He’s playing tonight to help ring in 2009. The last year of the first decade. How ’bout it?

Josh has a lot of new songs up his sleeve and a new album in the works. Below is probably the most upbeat song he’s ever written. It’ll cause you to shake what your mamma gave you. Please enjoy “Dandelion Clocks” and then we’ll see you tonight.

Audio Treat: Aaron Strumpel

Friday, September 12 will be something spectacular, no dizoubt.

It will feature Aaron Strumpel AND aboyandhiskite AND it will blow your mind.

In order to entice your senses, Mr. Strumpel has offered up a rough cut from his forthcoming album. The forthcoming album that has kept him from playing very many shows as of late. The forthcoming album that promises to create a new stratosphere. This Friday, catch Mr. Strumpel while he is still in this stratosphere, then you can say you saw him here. Show time is 8 pm and there is a $5 cover at the entryway.

Until then, enjoy “Flooded.” Strumps says it started as a nursery rhyme and ended up a rave and was written near Yale. Academia is wacky.

Free Music Friday: A Free Album From JJ Heller

Back in March the musician known as JJ Heller played the Everyday Joe’s stage. If I remember correctly, a handful of folks drove to Fort Collins from Missouri – or somewhere else in the Midwest – for the show. I was so impressed I tried to give them free coffee, but they wouldn’t take it.

Now it’s your turn for something free. JJ Heller is offering a whole album to you for no money. Just download and enjoy.

And it looks to me like the cover art is done by our very favorite, Luke Flowers. He is the perverbial most awesome.

Free Music Friday: Free EP from Kate Hurley

Oh, Kate Hurley.

She is a very funny lady. Very funny and very easily distracted…and those qualities are very endearing when you are in the room with her.

Kate has played Everyday Joe’s quite a few times. She has an album out that is fantastic and features the likes of The Blackthorn Project, Aaron Strumpel, Andrew Jed, Trace Bundy, and Aboyandhiskite (who also recorded/produced the record). She was also featured on our little treat we gave you back in December of ‘07.

In the spirit of most independent musicians these days, Kate is giving away a free EP of her music for you to enjoy.

Audio Treat SPECIAL EDITION: NoiseTrade = Free Music For You

Holy cow holy cow holy cow.

For some time now, I’ve heard whisperings and rumblings about a musician in Nashville who wanted to start a music-sharing service based on the idea of relationships and community. Art and community and relationships colliding…yes please.

Ladies and gentleman, please welcome to the information cloud: NoiseTrade.Com (celebratory trumpets).

“What happens when the generous, forward-thinking artist meets the generous, forward-thinking fan? They live happily ever after.”

Those are the words of NoiseTrade’s co-founder and Nashville musician, Derek Webb. In September of 2006, Webb decided to give away his album “Mockingbird.” As a result, he watched his fan base grow exponentially (were you watching, Radiohead?). This then birthed an idea in his mind, and that idea grew into the beautiful child that is NoiseTrade- where you download entire albums(!) and as a trade you either spread the word to 3 friends or pay a minimum of $1. That sounds alright by me.

So far, the choices are limited to a small handful of Webb’s musical friends (his musical friends, however are quite talented). But give the site a break. As of when this is being written, NoiseTrade is just about 35 hours old. When you were 35 hours old you were sleeping 18 hours a day. Artists up for download include several Everyday Joe’s alum (Matthew Perryman Jones, Katie Herzig, Sandra McCracken) and several others who we wouldn’t mind being Everyday Joe’s alum.

If you want to know even more about where NoiseTrade came from and how you can get your music on there, you can download the info sheet here. If you want to get to downloading so you have the proper amount of time to tweek that Fourth Of July BBQ Playlist, click on the banner below.

Free Music Friday! A Digital E.P. from The Autumn Film

Hold on there, buddy. Put that economic stimulus check back in your pocket.

Appendix E-J has music for you, but it’s positively free. Free for you to download and listen to again and again and again until the musical structures have seared themselves into your brain and they become the soundtrack to all your thoughts.

Our friends in the Autumn Film are starting to make quite the name for themselves down in Denver, as well as reaching their musical tentacles out into other musical communities (Aubrea Alford plays violin on Trace Bundy’s new DVD). Although the official release date for this EP is on May 20, they’d like you to have it now. Just click on the picture.

Audio Treat: Brooke Waggoner

Audio treats coming out of our ears, people.

Out of ours and into yours.

This Saturday, the fantastic Brooke Waggoner will make her Everyday Joe’s debut. She makes her home in Nashville and runs around with the likes of Katie Herzig and Mute Math and Bell X1. Could she fall in the “rock star” category? No, because she’s too nice and lovely. Rock stars wouldn’t share a song with us. Very good musicians who will be well-known and probably help save the world share songs.

Show starts at 7 pm. $5 at the door, Dan Craig & The Riflemen will open the night up.

That’s enough out of me. Take a listen to “Hush If You Must.”

Audio Treat: Luke Flowers

Everyday Joe’s has a very good friend. His name is Luke Flowers

Luke lives in Colorado Springs. He is a very, very good artist. He created the art for our gift cards, the art for our punch cards, the poster and tickets for our first 90/10 Benefit, and posters for several other concerts. He’s also done album and poster artwork for Jars Of Clay, Trace Bundy, Braddigan, Newcomers Home, The Blackthorn Project, and Jonah Werner among others. He’s family. I’d give him studio space in the building if he would move here. He was featured on “Love, Everyday Joe’s- Vol. 1: No More Gloom.”

When he’s not playing with his kids or drawing pictures for a living, he makes music that is quite listenable…both as a solo artist and with his side project, SameName. New albums were recently released on both fronts, and Mr. Flowers has been kind enough to send a couple of songs to the Appendix for your listening pleasure. Have a listen, then buy the albums.
