The Agents of Future are some of my favorite people/one of our favorite bands on the face of the planet in its entirety. They were part of the 2009 90/10 Benefit. My guess is – regardless of what believe – you want some part of what they carry around with them.
We love the people of Nathaniel Rateliff (formerly Nathaniel Rateliff & The Wheel (formerly The Wheel)). They are good people. They make some fantastic music that is def some of our summer jaaaammmmmzzzzz. Good for nights on the porch, taking a nudge time to time…or mornings on the porch listening to the birds and crickets sing together.
I digitized over to the Nathaniel Rateliff site just now, only to be pleasantly surprised by video of an on-air in NYC performance of their new song “Pounds And Pounds.” ‘Tis a beaut, as per the norm.
Nathaniel is back in his deep-v white v-neck and Joseph Pope wears a Delta Spirit shirt. Almost as killer as the tune.
The Rateliff camp is on tour now, and will make a stop in Fort Collins during Bohemian Nights on August 21. See you there. “Pounds & Pounds” below.
The first half of today was spent listening to my Arrested Development (Speech, not Jason Bateman) Pandora station whilst helping on bar. Business meetings soundtracked by The Fugees, Digable Planets, De La Soul, and Tribe among others. For a short while, hip-hop took over 144 S. Mason.
Of course, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Our friend Listener has played the Everyday Joe’s stage several times, most recently in May opening for Aaron Strumpel & taking part in the Elephants extravaganza.
Listener has a new video out to an old song. That washing machine isn’t a prop, folks, it’s an institution.
It seems good art attracts good art…makes for some good collabos. That’s some lingo for collaborations. Good collaborations.
The new music video for Sleeping At Last’s “Green Screens” of their new Storyboards album is actually a great collabo. One that makes the beauty of the visual and the auditory and compounds them towards emotion shaking heights. It is a collabo between Sleeping At Last and Javan Ivey. I have never heard of this Ivey sir or lady before now, but I’m very into it.
Hopefully the Sleeping At Last fellas and their lovely mother will return to Everyday Joe’s in 2010. Until then, dig the video below.
We’ve been resting and trying our best to avoid exhaustion. A 3-day trip to the great midwest and back will really take it out of you…even if you do have Danny & The Pirate & the others of Tortilla Flat to keep you company across the landscapes of Kansas.
Our first go at taking Everyday Joe’s other places was a resounding success and good time. It’s a different measure of success, though. We got to see some good and beautiful things happen, and we got to be in the middle of most of them. It was very lovely.
Here is a video briefly documenting the trip. Come ask about it if you like…we have a lot of stories and met a lot of good people. We’re looking at May for our next outing. The location is hush hush at this point…but we’re very excited.
Elephants by Aaron Strumpel is in my Top 3 albums of the year so far. It tramples my heart into the shape it should be.
Originally, Elephants was supposed be be a double disc release…with disc 2 being titled Birds. But, with Aaron’s success at the Festival Of Faith and music, Birds was put on hold to be released separately but still as a companion album to Elephants.
Well, dear ones, the time is drawing nigh.
Yesterday, Mr. Strumpel posted a video of some driving footaged, soundtracked by a rough mix of the Birds finale. If the beginning & middle are half as good as the end, we are in to have our minds blown. Watch and then watch again:
Once the official blog camera was off, the gloves came off also…except there was still a camera going and Dave doesn’t seem to care. At least he’s honest.
A while back, I posted concerning Starbucks’ announcement that they were preparing the launch of an instant coffee line dubbed VIA. I began to look for said soluable beverage, only to see that it was available in select stores in Seattle and Chicago. I wasn’t willing to pay shipping to get it to me, so I had to exercise some patience.
Luckily, good man Steve Griffin made a trip to Chicago to get some things squared away at a foreign embassy. He searched the south side of Chi-Town for a Starbucks carrying the Ready Brew and was able to secure two varieties. He returned to Ft. Collins with the stuff and we met early on a Wednesday morning at Everyday Joe’s (for reals…6 a.m.) to sit down and try it and film the trying of it.
The music is by an artist who is currently a volunteer favorite, James Pants.
If you were at Everyday Joe’s for Aaron Strumpel’s album release show back in May, you were fortunate enough to witness the art of Listener & his Loud Talking. Listener (aka Dan Smith) has been performing at Everyday Joe’s since back in the day (2005) and his overall mastery of the craft seems to achieve new heights with each successive performance.
This leads one to wonder…where does the inspiration come from? His moustache is no doubt a large part of his energy field, but there must be more. He spends so much time on the road, you’d think he would be drained. Wrong-o pal.
Once you watch the video below, you’ll see the road is simply where it all begins. We proudly present Cribs- Tour Edition: Listener.
