Happy Christmas From Candy Claws & Firebreather

Hello dear ones.

This time of year sometimes brings out generosity in people. Sometimes not…but it should bring out the generosity in our hearts for those who may need something to lift them up.

From the hearts of our friends in Candy Claws & Firebreather come songs for you to listen to and download and be merry by.

Also, it would behoove you to remember that Candy Claws is one of the bands featured on this years’ Love, Everyday Joe’s compilation, which you can download for free. It makes a great Christmas present in the stockings of the ones you desire to feed good audible things to.

Merry Christmas, from all of us. Enjoy the Candy Claws/Firebreather treats below. Then enjoy the treats your mom pulls out of the oven.

Audio Treat: Johanna Kunin

It seems these days that musicians from the Pacific Northwest are invading Everyday Joe’s, and we like it…and we know you do too.

One of these lovely artists is Johanna Kunin. She’ll be appearing at Everyday Joe’s this Saturday (June 20) with our dear friends Candy Claws. In order to entice your ears into convincing your brain to be down at 144 S. Mason on Saturday, Johanna has kindly posted a song here on the Appendix for you to hear. “Hidden Systems” is really quite a beautiful composition that gradually builds upon itself. At one point, Johanna’s voice seems to become an instrument…which is always a sign of good things.

The song is the title track to Ms. Kunin’s new album, which you can order/donate to/download over at johannakunin.com.

Please enjoy “Hidden Systems”

Audio Treat: Aaron Strumpel “Right Thru”

Our good & lovely friend Aaron Strumpel will celebrate the release of his award-winning album Elephants with a show at Everyday Joe’s on Friday night. It will feature Aaron & eight (!) of his closest friends on stage making a noise you will not soon forget.

So epic.

Mr. Strumpel has been kind enough to send the song “Right Thru” to us for you. Listen to that below, then watch him perform the song below that. Then we’ll see you on Friday and it will completely rage your face. You can listen to more of Aaron’s new tunes over at his Myspace.

Random Bits: explore the musical family tree

A few of us around Everyday Joe’s subscribe to the Very Short List. VSL is always a good source for something to occupy your time while it should be occupied by something else.

Recently, VSL pointed out the site TuneGlue. It helps you explore the degrees of separation between musicians, which fascinates me to no end…especially when I begin with artists who play here at Everyday Joe’s. I’d recommend starting with Josh Dillard and seeing where it takes you.

The only gripe I’ve heard is you can’t listen to the music of the folks who pop up. Fortunately, there are a multitude of sites to help you with that. FineTune or Pandora are nice.

Enjoy. This should help get you through Thursday & Friday and back to the weekend.

Family Travels: Off To Thailand

This time of year, part of the Everyday Joe’s volunteer base always takes of to places across oceans and borders. The folks that serve here often have hearts that break for people, and at times feel they must go very far away in order to help heal some brokenness.

Case in point: Ms. Megan Flint.

Megan- who volunteered on Wednesday afternoons over the past 4 months – left on Tuesday for Thailand with her boyfriend Tony (a member of my favorite new Fort Collins-based band…The Riflemen). In Thailand, the wonder-couple will be working with victims of modern slavery & sex trafficking. They’ll be there until July and we’d positively love it if you kept up with them via their blog: .bangkok.thailand.

If you bought any jewelry from Everyday Joe’s lately, chances are it was made by Megan and you helped fund this trip. Thank you very much. You are wonderful.

Community in Music: Act So Big Forest Hits The Front Page

If you picked up a copy of Thursday’s (5/8/08) edition of the Rocky Mountain Collegian, a couple familiar faces may have been staring back at you…or staring off into the musical distance.

Everyday Joe’s musical son Jon Alonzo and our good friend Dave Maddocks – along with the rest of the Act So Big Forest musical community – were featured in a cover story written by our very own volunteer Maggie Canty. We’ve watched most of the Forest grow up before our very eyes…Winderous Igloos, Airships, Josh Dillard, Candy Claws…the list goes on. They are an endless source of creativity and can often leave you with your head cocked to one side, a bit confused.

They are great and we love them very much. Read the article here. Paean, another member of the forest, will release their new album at Everyday Joe’s on June 6 with special guest Maxwell Hughes
