Meet Gubnertorial Candidate John Hickenlooper At Everyday Joe’s

He’s a common man! John Hickenlooper is a common man who mows the yard with an electric mower, not without his Blackberry. Have you ever used an electric mower? It feels like you’re vacuuming the grass.

Denver Mayor Hickenlooper has thrown his name in the hat for the position of governor of the centennial state. He’s founded breweries (Wynkoop and helped with Coopersmith’s among others), he’s governed things, and now he’ll make his way to Everyday Joe’s on Friday, March 26 to talk with you concerning the matters of city & state you have questions about. Working the floor of 144 S. Mason has been his destiny all along.

The mayor will be at Everyday Joe’s 1:45-2:45 pm, and the event is free to attend. Please come down and say hello. See you then!

Exclusive (?) New Tunes From Brooke Waggoner: Chromates Soft Love

Musicians are nice when you are nice to them. That is not always true. Sometimes, you just have to be nice to them because it is the thing to do. But other times, being nice is met with treats.

In this case, the treat is a new song from our dear Brooke Waggoner. The e-mail that came with it claimed it as exclusive, but I think that probably went out to many folks. However, it is quite nice.

Her younger brother Phil is a good man, part of the Everyday Joe’s family, and steady musician. Brooke is also a steady musician (methinks it is in the blood) and that steadiness is well portrayed in “Chromates Soft Love” from Brooke’s upcoming release Go Easy Little Doves. Smart brains must also run in the Waggoner blood, because that song title makes my brain hurt. The music, however, does not. Listen below, check out tour dates below that, and then buy Brooke’s new album come Oct. 6

A Mysterious Gift: Derek Webb’s “Stockholm Syndrome” In Our Mailbox

Remember the United States Postal Service? The lovely entity that delivers letters and things by hand, usually placing them in something called a “mailbox?”

Each day, I must walk out to our mailbox and retrieve our mail. Rarely is it a handwritten letter, but usually a mass-produced waste of a tree trying to sell me something…or a bill…sometimes a postcard from New Belgium. Those are nice.

Today, though, held something entirely different. I reached in and out came a CD in a clear case with just this printed on the disc:

Intrigued, I popped the CD into my computer. iTunes recognized it as Stockholm Syndrome by Derek Webb. My heart went pitter patter a bit.

I don’t know if you’ve been following the whole viral marketing/controversy(?) surrounding this album, but an advance copy of it showing up in our mailbox is an exciting thing. You can get caught up on the whole deal by clicking here.

We’ve decided to play the album tonight at 7 pm down here at Everyday Joe’s. Come and listen if you like. I hope to see you. It could be the greatest 51′ 40″ we ever spend together.

Free Music Friday! A Digital E.P. from The Autumn Film

Hold on there, buddy. Put that economic stimulus check back in your pocket.

Appendix E-J has music for you, but it’s positively free. Free for you to download and listen to again and again and again until the musical structures have seared themselves into your brain and they become the soundtrack to all your thoughts.

Our friends in the Autumn Film are starting to make quite the name for themselves down in Denver, as well as reaching their musical tentacles out into other musical communities (Aubrea Alford plays violin on Trace Bundy’s new DVD). Although the official release date for this EP is on May 20, they’d like you to have it now. Just click on the picture.

An audio treat from Katie Herzig

In just two weeks, our dear friend Katie Herzig will be traveling back to Colorado from Nashville to play some shows for her home state. At her stop at Everyday Joe’s on April 4, Katie’s new album Apple Tree will be available as a special pre-release. You see, outside of these Colorado shows, you won’t be able to get your ears around Apple Tree until May. How’s that for fancy?

Ms. Herzig has been kind enough to send a song from the new album to Appendix E-J for your listening pleasure. Please enjoy “Songbird” in all its pre-pre-release glory. Then, buy your tickets for the show here.
