Audio Treat: Denison Witmer

For the second summer running, Mr. Denison Witmer will be playing at Everyday Joe’s. We are elated and excited. If Mr. Witmer or anyone in his camp happen to be reading this: thank you for coming back. Fine people and deep espresso await you.

In order to get anyone else reading this ready for the show this Saturday (the 23rd of July), we’re posting a little audio treat from Witmer’s latest album The Ones Who Wait. The album is textured and dynamic and gorgeous…like good espresso. There could be a metaphor building.

The track is “Brooklyn With Your Highest Wall.” It’s smooth with bright notes throughout, a well-developed profile, and a smart finish…like good espresso. That last sentence was taking it too far, but the song is quite good. Listen below or download here. Our good, good pal Aaron Strumpel will be opening the night. It’s a super show, of sorts. See you then. Buy your tickets here.

Audio Treat: Damien Jurado

Damien Jurado is coming to Everyday Joe’s on May 28. We’re so excited we just might burst…but then we’d miss the show (zing!).

In case you’ve never heard of the fellow – or in case you just want to listen to some of his fine music – “Cloudy Shoes” has been left here for your listening pleasure. Also, we paid the research department over time to find a video of the man playing his song “Birth Right” in a setting more akin to the Everyday Joe’s stage…because the Everyday Joe’s stage is exactly like playing in the back of a car driving through the green hills of wales. That video had restrictions, tho it is worth watching. We found another one that’s hot an fresh…recorded on the 12th day of this very month.

Opening the night is one of our dear favorites You, Me, & Apollo. He has a new album coming out at the beginning of June. These ears have heard it, and now your ears can hear 1/13 of it. Enjoy “Oh, Brother” below “Cloudy Shoes” and the video. Below “Oh, Brother” you will find a poster containing pertinent infos, tho here is a summary: 7 pm start. Tickets $10 adv / $12 door. Buy them at the shop (144 S. Mason FC, CO) or here.

Now presenting the audio/visual portion of this post:

Audio Treat: Josh Garrels

Man oh man oh man. We’ve had audio things coming out the wazoo on this bit of blog-o-sphere real estate lately. Plenty of coffee things are waiting to be posted. It’s just been bananas.

So bananas, in fact, we can’t believe the show on this Saturday is already here. We’re happy it is, tho. It feels that an evening with Josh Garrels will be good for these hurried & harried souls.

We’re glad Mr. Garrels was willing to post a song here fore you, as his music is some we’ve been trying to share with folks for near five years now. Problem is, he left the song choice up to us. It was a tough one. The man’s catalogue is solid and we celebrate it in it’s entirety.

Therefor, the decision was left up to one Ms. Jennifer Godleski. She debated for nearly 3 minutes, before deciding to reach back in time to 2006 and grab a track off Over Oceans. “Decision” is a jam. Listen to it below, and then come listen to more on Saturday night at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. Our friends Seth Braverman and Shadows On A River will start the evening off the right way.

Audio Treat(s): The Riflemen, Josh Dillard

So many people pass through Everyday Joe’s that our community/family stretches far and wide and across oceans. It seems most end up coming back to say hello, if even for just a moment.

Several of these friends will return this weekend to celebrate the release of their new albums. Josh Dillard is a man we’ve loved sometime, and to be able to celebrate the release of his second album with him is a joy. The Riflemen are people who have stayed and gone, but will all be at Everyday Joe’s on Saturday, April 9.

Mr. Dillard is releasing his new effort The Whale & The Sea. It’s been in the works for some time now, and it’s streaming into my earholes as I write this, and you should anticipate it hotly. Below, you can listen to a composition from the album handpicked just for you by Josh Dillard himself. Enjoy “Kingdom Built On Sand.”

Next things next – our friends in The Riflemen. A couple three of these gentlemen have gone on to make up The Sunshine House, while another has moved to Denver and joined A Mouthful Of Thunder, and yet another moved to Houston to work for a small startup business called Shell.

All those things aside, the band is coming back together to play one last time and release it’s first album…all on one night. Circle of life, like this morning when I saw a hawk swoop down and make a pigeon on the sidewalk it’s breakfast.

The Riflemen have also handpicked a tune for you…please enjoy “Rocky Mountain Teeth” below. We’ll see you at the show on Saturday (April 9). Cover is $10 at the door, but you can get in with a FoCoMX wristband as well. Start time? 7 pm. You, Me, and Apollo will warm the night up.

Audio Treat: The Sunshine House

Our good friends of The Sunshine House are quite the musical ensemble. They are releasing their EP this coming Saturday at Everyday Joe’s, and that has most people excited.

If you enjoyed when The Riflemen were around town, then methinks you’ll enjoy The Sunshine House…as 3 of its 6 members were Riflemen. Plus, they use electronic trickery on their electric guitars. Plus they’re nice folks.

So nice, in fact, that you can listen to the middle 2/3 of their self-titled debut below. What will the other two tracks sound like? What is electronic trickery? Can a horn section and a string section and a six member band all play at Everyday Joe’s at the same time? To find out, you’ll need to come to the show. 7 pm. Buy tickets here. You Me & Apollo and Seth Braverman will warm you up with their musics.

Enjoy the tunes.

Audio Treat: The Emporiums (Rough Cuts)

Well, these are at least as good as expected.

Our very good and lovely friends Aaron Strumpel & Karla Adolphe make beautiful music as solo artists. It can be hoped for, then, that if they make music together, that music will be maybe stupendous. Or a disaster.

Disaster averted.

Strumpel  & Adolphe have come together as The Emporiums. They will celebrate the release of their new album I Am The Richest at Everyday Joe’s on Friday night (1.21.11). At the show they’ll be giving away some tunes and taking pre-orders…but you can get your earphones started right now. Please enjoy rough cuts of “I Am The Richest” and “Lucy” below.

The show starts at 7 pm on Friday and will run you an easy $5. Click the poster to buy tickets.

Audio Treat: The Blackthorn Project (album stream)

Remember Newcomers Home? They were a fine musical troupe. Out of that band, Katie Herzig has gone on to be Katie Herzig and our dear friends Tim & Lori Thornton have gone on to form The Blackthorn Project.

Methinks this isn’t news to you. It’s been this way for some years now. But, if it is news to you, welcome to the fold. Also, you may want to clear your calendar for Friday night and make your way to Everyday Joe’s. You see, it is there that The Blackthorn Project and The Emporiums will be having a dual album release show (you can hear some Emporiums treats here).

When trying to pick a song from Tim & Lori’s new album Reckless to whet thine ears, it was decided as best to allow the whole album to do the job. Listen to it below. Buy tickets to the show below that (click the poster). See you then.

Audio Treat: Tim Coons

For some time now Everyday Joe’s has been friends with the people at Enter The Worship Circle. We have also been friends with Tim Coons for some time. Two of our some time friends are now making music together.

Tim is the latest artist to record for EWC’s Chair & Microphone series. Following the model set by Ben Pasley, Aaron Strumpel, and Karla Adolphe – the album was recorded in one sitting with a microphone and a guitar. The results are…well…very Tim Coons. And we like that.

Tim will be celebrating the release of Chair & Microphone Vol. 4 this coming Friday (9.17) at Everyday Joe’s. Mr. Coons was kind enough to send over a couple tracks for you to stream/download. They are below. Show is at 7 pm. Cover is $5. Brian Creenica and Chris Telfer will warm the night up.

New Music From You Me And Apollo

One of our favorite musical discoveries from 2009 was Mr. Brent Cowles aka You Me And Apollo. His How To Swim, How To Rot EP is pure gold. Listen and you will understand. His performance at Everyday Joe’s on a warm summer night is a warm memory. Thinking of taking him out for trail burgers the next day makes me hungry.

We haven’t heard much from You Me And Apollo since that brief summer tour. The other day on Twitter, Mr. Cowles announced he would be playing at the Apple store in Colorado Springs on March 19 (this coming Friday). Intrigued clicking took us to his Myspace site, where we found rough edits of 4 new songs. Those songs are now streaming below for your listening pleasure. Just press the play.

You Me & Apollo also donated a song to our Love, Everyday Joe’s | Vol. 3 compilation, which you can download here.
